I Burned My Tongue and Blamed It on the Algorithm | Pixtox | Deepsikha Roy

Image
At 7:00 AM yesterday, I adjusted my room temperature to a perfect 26 degrees and told myself it'd be a good day. At 8:00 AM, I burned my tongue on my espresso while scrolling past a post on protesting farmers. I quickly shared the post in my story and moved on to pick the newspaper that highlighted the world hunger index. As I sympathized with it briefly, I quickly grabbed by double egg toast and started my day. I called my friend on my way to work, and ranted about how the social media is filled with negativity and not worth the toll it takes on mental well-being. While I complained I couldn't ignore that I was complaining from a car seat, not a protest site. While at work, fetching a client even after following up for the fifth time seemed hopeless, my manager relieved me by giving examples of harder things people do around the world. With silent guilt, I hit the send on a mail that ended with: "Hope this doesn't get lost. looking forward to hearing from you s...

She was stripped off. Five pairs of protective eyes witnessed. Witnessed those who serves justice. Justice was another round of gamble, Gambled the daughter of fire, Fire that turned itself into fortune, Unfortunately, five pairs of protective eyes just witnessed, Witnessed that she was stripped off.  From bed time stories to television series,  From theater themes to inspiring rhymes, we hear different tales of Draupadi, the daughter who was blessed by fire, the lover who chose societal norms over love, the wife who chose peace in family over dignity, the mother who witnessed the last breath of her sons, the asset who was gambled, the woman who was stripped off.  We all heard about the glorifying story of how Draupadi after facing all the humiliation (from the family she was supposedly a daughter in law) in front of  her five husbands (the ones known for their truthfulness, wisdom,  knowledge, power and skills), still chose to follow their destiny of fourteen y...

Who is a friend? |pixtox| Deepsikha Roy |

Play Friendship  to check whether you have these expressions in your Friendship! Hey, do you recall that witty boy from 8th grade who used to make a fool out of himself to make the entire cohort chuckle? Also, that charming girl from section B, 'the miss popular' for whom almost every guy had a crush on? (Although most of the girls envied her for that). Okay, you must remember that topper boy of the class who was also nominated for the class monitor for the same. I can't recall the name, what was it? Did you know that he too had a rumored girlfriend? You don't? The girl, who was the chemistry topper. Nice match though. Oh my God! It has been so many years and yet we remember the silliest reminiscences. The witty boy, the miss popular, the topper and so many faces have become blurred but clear enough to still relish on them. When we remember their faces, how do we recognize them as? A friend? That's not possible, right? How can the entire cohort be our friends? After...

Women👑 |Deepsikha Roy| pixtox |

Image
"A woman is a woman's worst enemy" ~ A phrase, a joke or a reality? Well, it's still not pinpointed but it often passes through our ears as a shallow and cool vibrance.  Maybe, I'm not at a point to say with confidence about healthy women companionship, however the notion that has been nurtured in us has built an uninterrupted and biased conviction about women and their unity. I was somehow convinced from childhood that male friends are always better than female friends owing to minimal chances of betrayal. At my early days it seemed cool for me to have a lot of guy friends than girls. It's not that they were not at ace, some of them are still in touch and among my closest ones. However, the more I'm blossoming, the more I'm compassionate about how healthy, effortless and beautiful a women friendship can be.  The way your 'her' can understand the mess you are in without even mentioning it, The way she can break down your big mistakes into simp...

Are you actually in love?|Deepsikha Roy| pixtox |

Image
So, are you actually in love, precious?  I know, you are not ready for any commitment yet. You are so satiated with these bubbles inside you that you wish this phase to last forever.  Again, forever?  That one ring at exactly same time everyday, gives butterflies;  After all, that little sparkle is worth all the ignorant lies.  There has been not a single second when it felt monotonous, After all, it's the only 'not so legal' cause amid everything our Instagram claims pious.  Discussing even the lamest of gossips never felt like a waste, After all, that last half an hour of the day has been already affirmed as the 'best'.  It has been never as effortless as we breathe, That little consciousness of what not to tell has always been aside, After all, losing that little elation at the end of the day is not worth exposing our true side.  That episode of your life, where your heart already thinks that this person is the one.  Is this not the person...

Infinite miles apart | Superstars | Deepsikha Roy | pixtox |

Growing up in the captivating Era of Rajesh Khanna, vocalizing enchanting Bollywood dialogues were one of his treasured works. He was one of those kids in our settlement from whom neighbours used to get pissed off very often due to his wayward behaviour. The ones who really adored him, used to call him "the chota Rajesh Khanna" of India. From his salad days, his only dream was to become a famous Bollywood actor, one like the first 'superstar' of India and getting declared in the television. On his 10th birthday, we enlisted him in a nearby acting school to nurture the wings of the little boy who wanted to fly his dreams. Later, as he reached his early juvenescence, his animated dreams of a perfect life onscreen started losing colour. He emerged to be more indulged in a realistic existence. He still wanted to become a hero, not just act like one. He wanted to be a non-fictional warrior in his own cinema, named 'life'. As parents, never did we cloud the sky t...

A work or just another bad word? |Deepsikha Roy| |pixtox|

Image
Jewelled in all red and pretended gold, I always have an image to hold.  Holding back all the tears, I know, I have a lot more to bear.  Bearing the pleasures of other people, My wailing is just a piece of sample.  Samplings of joy are what I collect, With the ones I can hardly connect.  Love, this is what they make, I was told. But I don't understand why am I not able to take it anymore.  Holding the instructions of my head, I am always asked for the legs to spread.  Spreading immense of pleasures, a work, I was told. No more do I sense any pain,  My madam assumes, I am bold. I practice taking part in sexual activities in exchange of capital. In the unknown world, people call it business.  Turning back to the pages of Indian history, the earlier adaptations of us were called as 'devadasi' who considered the Gods as their husbands and therefore contributed their entire lives for the devotion of the same. Later, they were called the 'nagarvadhu' or...

A store of thoughts in the heart were being hindered, A cluster of scribbled notions were gathered,  When for the first time, it was again rekindled.  Rekindling the words that were unspoken,  For the first time, it was articulated with the love that was almost forgotten.  Forgotten the memories that life has delivered,  Until it was framed with words and were being shared.  I shared everything with so much compassion and love, And in return? In return I was parceled with so much more than I Showered.  Showering every thought that crossed my mind, The mind which once hovered like a bumblebee, Now, it expresses the cache that were about to flee.  Flying every visions with love that my heart remembers,  And in return? In return I am blessed with something so precious, my readers.  Hey, my precious one, you might be wandering that everything I scribbled above is just a flattering to hold your consciousness. Well, if to some extent I could s...

To every dad out there |Deepsikha Roy| Pixtox|

By age, I was semi-annual when pappa had to leave for abroad as a part of his vocation. From there on, maa took over the management of me and my elder sibling. Never falling short in any of her duties, from cooking to shopping; from home making to banking, she manages everything without grumble.    On the flip side, pappa works overseas day and night so that we can inhale in delight. Without fail, where we relish every festival, in another continent, he  smiles in content of providing us with everything possible. Here, we are enjoying family times, there, he still has to work for miles.  I wonder how some souls can be so altruistic and considerate. Pappa has spent his whole early 40's with his workmates so that we can make our whole life better. Our never ending demands have always been fulfilled unfailingly. In return, we always end up wishing for more.      To every dad who is working outside the comfort place, so that his family never goes th...

Who is she? |Deepsikha Roy|

Image
I wonder how peacefully I was breathing,  Inside someone who made it so consoling.   Consoled her every gesture, So that we could rest in ceasefire.   Now, when we need everything possessed, Then, we existed in the little room which she has inherited.   Possessing mood swings and emotions so unsteady, Still she made it for 280 days with no less custody.   Who is she?   The one who shapes herself like water, according to the need of circumstances.  The one who faked smiles after smiles to make us advance through miles.   The one who make quarrels let go because we are always the priority over ego. The one who never asks for loyalty because the love she shares is above all these worldly beauty.    Who is she?   The one who once checked the warmth of the milk before feeding,  Now she makes sure anything adverse is not even reaching.   The one who once made life easy inside herself being so fragile,  Now, she makes...

Your own day of womanhood💫 |Deepsikha Roy|

They say, changes are beautiful. For the first time, I found it painful.   A prolonged pain which they claimed very pure, But still I was kept away from everything pious, The reason, even I am not sure.    Things that are natural are the gifts of the deity, But still I was not allowed to serve the Almighty.   As a child I knew blood is menacing. As a woman I know it can be embarrassing.   Immoral things in public were taught not to be exposed, Now I know even the beautiful changes in me are also meant to be disclosed.    I still remember the day when for the first time my underclothes got stained with blood without any injury. It was not like I did not know about women's menstruation. I was made aware of these changes by my mother. The things I was unaware of were my limitations during the cycles. In many places, women faces a lot of restrictions till now by their family and the society during these seven days. Although I am lucky enough that the...

To love and to be loved💫 |Deepsikha Roy|

Image
To those little innocent lies, When stomach was all about butterflies. Butterflies in the breathe, Each look made the heart sink little underneath.   To the cheeks with those natural blush, That made the adrenaline rush. Rushing every time for a single meet, Made us discover some fresh definitions of our heart's beat.   To those shy hesitations of crossing fingers, When walking miles made us linger. Lingering every night to talk more, Anxious feelings used to knock just to adore.   Remember love?   Remember love when it was the most unadulterated thing that existed in this universe?    Remember love when Wikipedia couldn't define it?    Today, love has diverse definitions. Entertainment media bestowed us with a variety of elucidations to love and to be loved and we profoundly act in accordance to the criteria set by them. From roses to rumours love has travelled a long way. Today love has definitions of trust, loyalty, compromise, adjustment and m...

It is worth to be the priority💫 |Deepsikha Roy|

A state of mind when you feel a constant upgradation of knowledge, a philosophy of variable version of thought in a positive direction, a psychology of enhancing the conviction already surviving in the intellect, accomplishment of even the diminutive goals and so much more. All these sentences can be summed up in a single word called 'productivity'.    Normal life is almost a history now. Normal in the  perception when life was outside the comfort shelter of four walls. Normal was when day to day life brought many challenges everyday and our mind wholesomely dedicated to face them. From getting an auto to attending every classes, waking up in the morning to tolerating the boring conferences, everything was a challenge. Even if we missed some, life proposed so much new every following day that the thought of not executing few never crossed the mind. The pandemic that hit the world in late 2019 has made a huge impact on everything that was once normal. From snuggling to soc...

The perfectly bearded angels💫 |Deepsikha Roy|

It is somewhere dark where I am locked. People outside are still giggling because I was mocked. I was mocked of crying, With abortive measures of trying. Trying to escape from the world so flashy, Because everything around is too messy. It is not somewhere I was supposed to be dropped, Where my body is being delightfully craved but the soul in it is cropped. I am draped with all red and pretended gold, Which the decent world calls bold. The indecent world forced my toe with ornamental anklet bells which I could barely hold, And then I realised that I could be bargained and sold. It was 2012 and I was about to be twelve by the next month, the time when the adrenaline rush reaches at its peak, the time when completing the history syllabus was more important than life goals.  It was almost quarter past eleven in the morning when I was hurrying excitedly for the tuitions. Excited because for the first time I was authorised to go alone since mom was busy with some household work. She ha...

"I am feeling so depressed from the morning", "The lectures are so depressing." Relatable phrases right? Afterall, the word 'depression' is such a trendy word to overlap with. Without understanding the depth of the word, it is put into the bin of chic social media hashtags. The word 'depression' is too big to be trivialized loosely. It is as serious as diabetes and cancer. The only contrast is, the former dismantles you physically and the later demolishes you mentally. Till now we encountered the word in our timelines, now it is high time to actually study whether our mood swings are enough to define the word 'depression' or not.    Depression can be defined as a disorder or a manifestation of disorders. Sustained stress or actions in the past can also be a cause, but some people even get it without any root. Sometimes there are actually no reasons to be depressed of, there can be plentiful impulses to be happy, but still one can suffer from...

The compromise💫 |Disha Agarwal| | Deepsikha Roy|

Sitting across the same table ; Over food and an unquenched thirst, She gets up to fetch a glass of water for him. Numb by the pain her periods bring, Standing and cooking for them ; Spends her evening washing dishes And discarding the wishes within! "Stay back and cook",that's what they said Coated her dreams with the bitter flavours of life ; Lay forever frozen in the nooks of the broken mansion. The child is spoilt ; She is to be blamed. The other one flies ; He got it from his father. "Cover your head ", one chided " Have some shame", no one said him.  Fault was hers; How impertinent is she ; Fault was his, no one could see. Drowning in misery, Amidst smog, smoke and dust; Y is culpable while X wins the game. It's a girl, oh what a shame. "Compromise. Compromise is the only cue to retain the peace of a happy relationship." Growing up, I think every kid encounters this phrase. The wording sounds really romantic until the realisation hi...

Yesterday's fantasy, today's mystery💫 |Deepsikha Roy|

College. The word which apparently seems to be a fantasy for the high school tutees, turns out to be one of the greatest escapism from the pampered sunshade of begetters. From being on the feather bed of home to sharing a single room with five, it is that place which upskills us with the real flavours of adulthood. On the springs of 2018, Aarav, a fresher made his appearance on the first day of his college with an eye full of big dreams and innocence. He was little twitchy at the thought that nobody would probably talk to him. It is quite natural, everybody thinks the same, but it doesn't turn out to be real though. Afterall, college is that part of our life where we make some quality friends and so was the case with Aarav. On the first day, he befriended two handsome boys Viraj and Quasim. Viraj was very reserved and timid, whereas Quasim was just his contrast, an impulsive and lively soul. Worriness was not a part of Quasim's behavior. On the very first month, he got into an ...

Not just a hashtag💫 |Deepsikha Roy|

In this world of social media where people are more into hashtags and less into reality, the word "karma" is used as a response to stimuli for all the huge controversies. No matter whether you have a strong point to hold or not, you can easily get excused by this big word. Another big word which hits the hashtag of social media is "feminism". When it comes to this big word, "karma" too plays a crucial role. Before we get much into this, take a minute to ask yourself that what is the defination of feminism in your dictionary? Okay, hope you are done. Now, lets know briefly how the words karma and feminism are twinlike. If we start from the early nineteenth century, we will get to know about the patriarchy that has existed in the society. Women were just considered as an object of sexual pleasures and a body to be inbound in the kitchen. They did not get any right to education, property and employment. They were demeaned from men by the conformist community ...

It was a sunny afternoon when Ramesh chacha was half drunk, frustrated and busy playing casino with his fellow mates. As he was dropping to failure with time, he couldn’t afford much for the upcoming trials. Being frustrated as he was leaving, one of his mates suddenly poked him and said, "My dear friend, I can't see you losing like this, enough of all these games. These things are not at all a good way of earning money. Go home and call me as I have something to tell you. Now leave, your daughter must be waiting for you." It was almost evening when a thirteen year aged girl named Naina was excited about her new upcoming classes. She was eagerly preparing for the new subjects that were going to be taught. Suddenly Ramesh chacha arrives, addressing her daughter Naina he says, “I have a surprise for my little daughter today." His daughter who was overwhelmed with joy asked him excitedly, “Surprise! What surprise? Are we going to the fair today ?" Her father replie...
