Don't wait for itš« |Deepsikha Roy|
"I am feeling so depressed from the morning", "The lectures are so depressing."
Relatable phrases right? Afterall, the word 'depression' is such a trendy word to overlap with. Without understanding the depth of the word, it is put into the bin of chic social media hashtags.
The word 'depression' is too big to be trivialized loosely. It is as serious as diabetes and cancer. The only contrast is, the former dismantles you physically and the later demolishes you mentally. Till now we encountered the word in our timelines, now it is high time to actually study whether our mood swings are enough to define the word 'depression' or not.
Depression can be defined as a disorder or a manifestation of disorders. Sustained stress or actions in the past can also be a cause, but some people even get it without any root. Sometimes there are actually no reasons to be depressed of, there can be plentiful impulses to be happy, but still one can suffer from depression and that's why it is a matter of high concern. It is caused due to the alteration of hormones in the body. There are oodles of chemical reactions that make up the dynamic system that is responsible for our mood, perceptions, and how we approach to life. Also, genes play a very important role in maintaining the biological processes in the brain, but if it gets wrong, they can alter the biology in a way that results in our temper becoming unstable.
The most critical thing about depression is, one can't actually spot that he or she is suffering from it. The most common therapies that people suggest is to open up with others about their problems, to go out, to do physical exertion, but depression renders a person incapable of doing anything. They don't get the motivation of doing even the basic things. Moreover, one can't treat themselves about something they are unaware of. People suffering from this unknowingly makes them socially withdrawn with a sense of worthlessness.
Depression is not a choice, but why to wait for it to enfold us? The concern should not be about how to deal with depression when it has already shaped us, the concern should be how to shield ourselves before we get it. One doesn't seat back and wait for diseases to affect them, so the same goes for depression. The therapies that we hear online to recover from depression should be performed on a day to day basis to protect ourselves from it. We have to fight against mental health failure every day. On a daily basis, invest in the things you love. Keep yourself enganged with you so that depression can never think of reaching the edges of your mind. A vacant intellect is the biggest garage of misery and woe.
Remember one thing, being ALONE is sometimes not our choice but being LONELY can be. There is a big difference.
